The Waldorf school in the Heights has found a home!

The Waldorf school in the Heights has found a home for at least the first few years: Grace Lutheran Church on Cedar Road between Lee and Coventry. The group has been engaging Grace Lutheran for almost a year now and we’re at the right place to move forward. Grace Lutheran is a historical landmark with great beauty and more than adequate space to house the school for the next several years–including a full size commercial kitchen, a gymnasium, a newly announced organic, community garden and lots of interesting nooks throughout the church. The congregation and pastor have been great partners in the community and welcome Waldorf as a kindred spirit.

We are excited to report that the City of Cleveland Heights is currently considering our application for a conditional use permit to open the school in the Grace Lutheran Church building. Once the City’s planning commission approves our request, we will begin enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year!

The school plans to open with preschool through 4th grade, with additional grades to follow each year. In the meantime, we are establishing a hiring committee to interview teachers, obtaining a state license to operate, planning the school day and classroom design, and all the myriad other things that go into planning a school!

Thank you so much for your continuing help and support.

Our first Family Handwork Class will greet the New Year with creativity and community!

Beginning in January, the class will meet two Saturdays a month from 10-11:30 am, and will be geared toward beginner to intermediate handworkers, both young and old! We will work on projects thoughtfully organized by Waldorf handworker Alisha Trammel to coincide with the season and the group’s inclination, including knitting, candle-making, and weaving. For this introductory session all materials will be provided. Please call Amy at (216) 571-4676 for more information.
